Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety can take many different forms depending on the individual, but a common experience is persistent, excessive worry that feels difficult, or impossible, to turn off and/or a feeling of physical unease, muscle tension, or feeling physically agitated. The mind-body connection means the more you worry the more physically tense you feel, and the more physical tension the harder it is to relax and get out of those worries.

People often find themselves worrying about multiple areas of life i.e., work, children, relationships, health, finances, even though the specific focus of the worry may shift from day to day.

Over time, this constant tension may become overwhelming. Many people describe feeling unable to concentrate, stay present, or think clearly. Some feel like they alternate between an overthinking loop to feeling like their mind suddenly goes completely blank. Chronic anxiety wears the system down, often leading to irritability, fatigue, muscle tension, or disrupted sleep.

Anxiety can also include:

  • A sense of tension or being “on edge”
  • Dread or agitation
  • Feeling keyed up or unable to relax
  • Repetitive worries about the past, present, or future
  • Difficulty enjoying experiences because worry consumes attention

For some, prolonged anxiety culminates in panic attacks, which are sudden episodes of intense fear with symptoms such as a racing heart, sweating, shaking, dizziness, or the feeling of not being safe. These experiences can be frightening and disorienting.

How Therapy Helps

Therapy offers a structured, supportive way to understand and change the emotional and cognitive patterns that maintain anxiety. Together we slow down the internal cycle, build awareness of triggers, and develop effective strategies for reducing worry, grounding the mind, and restoring clarity and presence.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in evidence-based practices. We focus on both immediate symptom relief and deeper, longer-term growth so you gain tools you can rely on throughout your life.
